Rohit Sharma once again showed his captaincy and got Mumbai Indians the Indian Premier League title for the fifth time. Mumbai defeated Delhi Capitals in the final match on Tuesday. After this, former England captain Michael Vaughan believes that in this shortest format of cricket, Rohit should be made the captain of the team.
Rohit Sharma’s team defeated Delhi by five wickets in the final to win the trophy for the second time in a row. Mumbai is the second team to do so after Chennai.
The Delhi team, batting first, scored 156 for 7 wickets with the help of captain Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant’s half-century. In response, Mumbai achieved the target in the 19th over. Rohit scored the highest 68 runs for his team.
After the match, Michael Vaughan tweeted and praised Rohit Sharma. Vaughan said that Rohit should now be made the captain of India in T20 format. Vaughan described Rohit as a ‘brilliant man manager’. Along with this, he said that Rohit knows how to win T20 matches.
In Vaughan’s opinion, if Rohit is made the captain of T20, then the current captain Virat Kohli will get some relief and he will be able to play freely. Currently, Kohli is the captain of the Indian team in all three formats.
Vaughan wrote, ‘Of course, Rohit Sharma should be India’s T20 captain. He is a brilliant man manager and captain … and he knows how to win T20 matches … It will also give a little relief to Virat Kohli and he will be able to play only as a player … It is a world-wide player. Has proved to be effective for other teams … # IPL2020 ‘
Rohit has captained the Indian team in international cricket. In 2018, under his captaincy, India won the Nidahas Trophy and Asia Cup.
Former opener Gautam Gambhir has also advocated Rohit to be the captain of the Indian team in limited overs or at least T20 format. Gambhir had said that if Rohit is not made the captain then it will be a loss of Indian cricket.
