When a Qatari prince refuses to greet women referees at the ceremony of the world club championship

This Thursday, Bayern won 1-0 against the Tigers in the final of the world club championship in Qatar. During the post-match protocol ceremony, the referees parade and receive the medals. They also greet the organizers of the tournament as is tradition.

The first three, who are men, are congratulated with a clenched fist, pandemic obliges, by Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani present on the podium. Then, the Qatari prince did not greet the two female assistants.

On the images, we see Edina Alves Batista and Neuza Back, talking briefly with Gianni Infantino, president of Fifa. The Italian seems to be telling the referees not to make a gesture to the family member of the Emir of Qatar.

These images were pinned by Fox Sports 1. Giulio Cavalli, author and Italian environmentalist politician, also analyzed the images in depth. According to him, Infantino would have given the instruction “not to annoy the sheikh and to avoid impure contacts”.

For FIFA, this controversy does not mix. Several associations have already tried to denounce that human rights were not respected and the rights of women violated.
