Anyone who has ever used a video stabilizer knows how painful the fixing and balancing stage can be. It’s old history with the DJI Osmo Mobile 4. Here, all you have to do is install a clamp or stick a patch on your smartphone. Both devices are magnetized and will automatically hook onto the stabilizer. The balancing is done automatically and no longer requires adjustment thanks to faster motors. It’s hard to make it simpler. In less than a minute, you’re ready to shoot whether you’re an initiate or a beginner.
For the rest, relatively few changes. We find the features that made the success of these devices, such as the timelapse mode, perfect for sunsets and still as effective. The ActiveTrack is also making a comeback in an improved version. This function allows you to automatically follow a subject, very practical when you are filming yourself. The stabilizer well takes the movements of the subject and it will be rare that it fails its owner. Only particularly sudden movements, such as someone running, or a dense crowd, will manage to lose him.
The ergonomics are almost unchanged and remain formidable. The quick access buttons are all accessible except for the trigger for the zoom, too far from the thumb for our taste.
We still note the appearance of some nice functions such as the Story mode, which allows you to create small clips of a few seconds with camera movements, or the possibility of achieving a Vertigo effect as in the films of Alfred Hitchcock. . These additions allow some additional creative movements without revolutionizing an already complete system.
On the autonomy side, DJI still announces 15 hours of use. A slightly overestimated figure in our opinion. But rest assured, the device will last a good day before needing to be recharged.
A price increase
If our impressions are excellent on this product, we are forced to point the finger at the significant price increase of this edition compared to previous models. Count 149 euros. At this price, the Osmo Mobile 4 comes with a battery of accessories including a tripod and a protective cover against 129 euros for the Osmo Mobile 3 with the same pack of accessories.
If DJI delivers the best stabilizer for smartphones tested by the editorial staff, we can easily recognize that the increase in price can be a brake on the purchase. The competition positioning its prices around a hundred euros.
