Tens of thousands of drivers will need to be hired over the next four years to meet the growing needs of the road freight industry.
The challenge being important, the Association du camionnage du Québec (ACQ) will hold a job fair on June 4 and 5, in virtual mode. On this occasion, there will be job postings, live chat and video interactions as well as promotional videos to learn about the companies and their needs.
The industry is looking for experienced candidates, but also people who want to change careers, graduates, students or newcomers.
All in all, 30,000 jobs will have to be filled by 2025, including 18,000 driver jobs.
“The placement rate for the transport by truck and the mechanics of heavy road vehicles is close to 100%,” the ACQ said in a press release on Friday. It was mentioned that 20% of all workers are women, a figure that is also growing.
The ACQ recalled that the road transport of goods has shown all its importance during the pandemic, in order to deliver products to grocery stores, pharmacies and other essential businesses.
