After half an hour of very close play between Villarreal and Manchester United in the Europa League final (to be watched live on RMC Sport 1), the yellow submarine found the opening with a resumption of Gerard Moreno. The Villarreal striker was perfectly found in the box by Dani Parejo on a free kick.
Gerard Moreno is indeed the key man for Villarreal this season. Author of 11 assists this season, the Spanish striker who will participate in the next Euro with La Roja has just scored his 30th goal of the season in all competitions, during the Europa League final which takes place in Gdansk, Poland. (to be followed live on RMC Sport 1).
Villarreal’s scorer was found perfectly on an off-center free kick shot by captain Dani Parejo. Despite the pulling of the shirt and the tight marking of Victor Lindelöf, Moreno managed to catch the ball with a half volley to deceive David De Gea and open the scoring at the half-hour mark (30th).
A first continental victory for Villarreal?
A goal that puts Manchester United, winner of the competition in 2017, in great difficulty while Edinson Cavani had missed a big opportunity a few minutes earlier by trying to serve Marcus Rashford instead of catching the ball. Villarreal, meanwhile, is participating in the first European final in its history (not counting the Intertoto Cups won by the club in 2003 and 2004) and could lift its first continental trophy.
Villarreal coach Unai Emery could become the first coach to win four Europa League titles for him. For this, his team will have to keep a good hour of play against Red Devils led by Paul Pogba in the midfield, but who cannot find the opening against a Spanish team which until then was very well organized.
