Finally ! Euro 2020 starts this Friday with a year behind schedule but this time we are there. And to start this European championship, Italy receives Turkey at the Olympic stadium in Rome, in an enticing opening match between two Rennes teams.
For Turkey coach Senol Günes this is the first meeting in a major tournament since the 2002 World Cup and he starts directly with Group A headliner Squadra Azzurra. Whoever gave new impetus to Turkey, absent three years ago from the World Cup in Russia, will be able to count on his striker in form, Burak Yilmaz, author of a great season with Lille despite his 35 years.
Italy, meanwhile, is considered one of the big favorites to lift the trophy on July 11. Squadra Azzurra remain on an impressive streak of 27 games without defeat. Roberto Mancini, the Italian coach will still be deprived of Lorenzo Pellegrini (who should be replaced by Castrovilli in the selection) but also of Marco Verratti, who will be replaced on the pitch by Locatelli.
A significant advantage for Italians, the Stadio Olimpico in Rome will be open to the public for the first time since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. What to give even more impact to this meeting which kicks off a Euro that we hope will be festive.
The probable lines:
Turkey: Cakir, Söyüncü, Demiral, Celik, Meras, Yoksulu, Tufan, Calhanoglu, Kenan, Ünder, Yilmaz.
Italy: Donnarumma, Florenzi, Bonucci, Chiellini, Spinazzola, Locatelli, Jorginho, Barella, Berardi, Insigne, Immobile
