The RCT ensures that it did not call the police in order to denounce the presence of Castres supporters on Saturday, on the last day of Top 14, at the Pierre-Fabre stadium.
Toulon counter-attack. In a statement released on Wednesday, the RCT denied calling the police to complain about the presence of Castres supporters on Saturday on the last day of the Top 14 regular season.
“The Management of Rugby Club Toulonnais has decided to react to the accusations made by the President of Castres Olympique in the Dépêche du Midi. No member of the Rugby Club Toulonnais called the police (…) in order to denounce the crowds at the Pierre Fabre Stadium. The intervention of the police is the result of an exchange between the Prefecture of Var and that of Tarn, “says Toulon. If the 1,000 spectator gauge seemed well respected, the rest of the territory remained under the curfew regime at 9 p.m., at the time of kick-off.
The misunderstanding of the RCT
According to information from the Dépêche du Midi, the RCT contacted the police at the request of its president Bernard Lemaitre. Police officers went there to carry out checks. But everyone present had a valid derogatory certificate, whether they were club partners, players from the training center or even members of supporters’ associations.
“In the context of a real influx of around 3,500 people, the leaders of the Rugby Club Toulonnais deplore not being able to invite some of their partners and supporters. Obtaining a copy of the exemption which has benefited Castres Olympique was refused to Rugby Club Toulonnais “, regrets the RCT in its press release.
The Var club, which bowed heavily to Castres (46-24), finished the season in eighth place, far from its goals. Despite a failed season, with the non-qualification for the final phase of the championship and the next European Cup, Bernard Lemaitre has renewed his confidence in his general manager Patrice Collazo. For its part, the CO saw his dream of the final phase fail after the success of the Stade Français in Bayonne (12-9), which deprived him of a place in the Top 6. Seventh in the standings, he has everything even won the right to play in the European Cup next season.
