Over the past few years, we have seen multiple electric cars hit the market in the country. From the Tata Nexon to the MG ZS EV, the market has come a long way.
While monthly sales are not making significant gains, manufacturers are well aware that electric vehicles will be able to make significant gains in the market in the years to come. Currently, only a handful of models are on sale.
But electric vehicles from the country’s leading manufacturers like Maruti, Tata, Mahindra and Hyundai are all set to hit the market next year. Let’s get acquainted with the new electric cars that are about to hit the market.
Indo-Japanese carmaker Maruti Suzuki will enter the electric vehicle market with the WagonR EV, a popular model in the range. The car is expected to hit the market by next year. Pictures of the vehicle, which has already been tested on the streets several times, have already been released.
The new Maruti electric car, first announced at the 2018 Move Summit, will be based on the third generation Wagon R hatchback. The WagonR EV is expected to become the cheapest high-voltage electric car for sale in India. Maruti will include a small battery pack to control costs. It is expected to offer 200 km on full charge.

It is likely to hit the market by mid-2023. Reports suggest that the upcoming Hyundai Electric Mini SUV will be based on the revamped ICE platform.
It has basic charging features and a decent electric range. Further details on the new Hyundai electric car are not currently available.
Tata Motors plans to launch two new electric vehicles in the Indian market. Ultras EV is almost certain. At the same time, the HBX EV is expected to hit the market later. Both models will feature Tata’s Citron technology.
It also has a dust and waterproof battery system that meets IP67 standards. The carmaker may unveil an updated version of the Ciptron electric powertrain in the upcoming Ultros EV hatchback and HBX EV mini SUV.
Mahindra, another leading manufacturer in the country, is all set to launch two new electric vehicles. An electric version of this will be based on the XUV 300 currently on the market.
The other will be based on the KUV100. Both models were showcased by the company at this year’s Auto Expo. The company has already announced the price of the KUV100 Electric Mini SUV.
Priced at Rs 8.25 lakh ex-showroom, the vehicle will be the most affordable electric vehicle in the country. The model uses a 40kW electric motor and a 15.9kWh lithium-ion battery. This vehicle can travel up to 150 km on a full charge.
The Mahindra eXUV300 will be the company’s first product, designed on the Mahindra Electric Scalable Modular Architecture (MESMA) platform. The 40 kW and 60 kW battery options offer a mileage of 370 kmph and 450 kmph respectively.
The electric version of the compact SUV will look a little different from the standard model. However, in terms of features and specifications, the electric vehicle is expected to follow the current model in the market.
