Google is expected to announce Android 12 on May 18, at its IO conference. In the meantime, the most impatient are exploring the first “preview” versions of the operating system, even if Google logically hides the most important new features.

While waiting for the official announcements from Google, the site XDA-Developers has obtained thanks to one of its sources an internal build of Android 12. It reveals a lot of new features that we did not yet know.
First design changes
Unfortunately, this preview does not yet have the new themes that have been rumored for several weeks. However, there are some indications that an interface redesign is planned. We note in particular that the volume indicator and the brightness control are now colored and much thicker. Another change, the system animations are much smoother. There are also new ones, for example when you plug in your smartphone.
An adaptation to folding smartphones?
This future version of Android 12 contains some interesting new features related to multitasking. Now, when you use two applications at the same time thanks to the split screen, pressing in the middle of the screen will allow the application at the top to switch to the bottom, and vice versa. This could be useful on folding smartphones, where the use of the split screen is more common.
On tablets (or smartphones with a large screen, such as folding devices), it will also be possible to display two home screen pages simultaneously, side by side (with a common dock). Here again, this seems particularly suited to large-screen devices, such as the Galaxy Z Fold 2. This novelty could, in passing, resolve some bugs of the Surface Duo, Microsoft’s two-screen smartphone.
Most of the software overlays already allow taking long screenshots (to record a whole conversation for example), Google is preparing to deploy this function natively with Android 12. The beta obtained by XDA-Developers allows you to resize a capture to make it longer.
The connected home even more in the spotlight
One of the most striking new features of Android 11 was the ability to access the control of connected objects in your home by pressing and holding the power button. With Android 12, Google should allow you to add a light bulb or other object to the notification center, alongside other shortcuts (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth etc.).
Trigger Google Assistant with a button
There may be a reason for this new behavior for the connected home, Android 12 should allow you to trigger Google Assistant when you hold down the power button. In this configuration, quick access to Google home would no longer be available.
With Android 12, our smartphones should also have new emojis. Generation 13.1, which focuses on inclusiveness, is emerging.
A message against abusive copy and paste
Finally, Google would steal one of the new features of the latest iOS from Apple. When an application performs a copy and paste, a message will appear at the bottom of the screen to notify you. This new feature will limit the abusive behavior of some developers who constantly absorb the content of your clipboard to improve their algorithms.

It is not known if these functions will arrive with the developer preview 3 Android 12 or whether it will be necessary to wait for the first public beta, in May. In any case, it seems that Google is preparing a lot of things before the official arrival of the operating system.
