Many of us are eagerly awaiting the release of a real novelty from Apple. For the moment, Apple has never really announced this product. However, in recent months, the Cupertino company has filed a large number of patents for this device. This leads us to believe that Apple is focusing part of its workforce on the development of these glasses.
The last piece of information we heard about Apple Glass is the potential presence of Sony sensors within these glasses. Ross Young, the founder of Display Search, tweeted last week: “We heard from multiple sources that Apple is working on AR / VR glasses using Sony micro-LEDs. 0.5, 1280 × 960 resolution ”.
Sony in collaboration with Apple?
It must be said that this choice would not be trivial. Indeed, Sony has a great experience in this field thanks in particular to PlayStation VR and its Personal 3D Viewer headsets. Earlier this year, Jon Prosser a very reliable leaker when it comes to Apple leaked several pieces of information on Twitter.
According to him, it could be that Apple Glass integrates a LiDAR sensor on the right temple, like the iPhone 12 and the iPad Pro. Apple is convinced that this LiDAR sensor can provide a much more precise augmented reality.
Some go so far as to speculate that apart from the LiDAR sensor, Apple will not add additional cameras to Apple Glass. Jon Prosser, still he also disclosed some information regarding the price of this device.
According to him, this pair of connected glasses will be available from $ 499, not including the various fixes. Later after launch, Apple should also introduce various versions offering more or less tinted lenses.
