The Sports Ministry on Monday recognized 54 National Sports Federations (NSFs) till September this year but kept the Paralympic and Sailing Operations bodies off the list. The Ministry has given fresh recognition to the All India Carrom Federation. The Paralympic Committee of India (PCI), the Sailing Federation of India (RFI) and the Indian School Sports Federation (SGFI) were not re-accredited.
The PCI and RFI were suspended for violations of the National Sports Code, while the recognition of the Sushil Kumar-led SGFI was revoked due to mismanagement. NSF is generally recognized till the end of the year but this time the ministry has only granted recognition till September this year.
Narinder Batra, President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) questioned this. Batra said, “Why only till September 2020 and not till December 2020?” Officials of the Sports Ministry did not respond seeking clarification on the subject. The recognition of the ministry for small level sports federations matters as they depend on the annual grant from the government for their daily expenses.
