A few hours after the announcement of his departure from Naples, Gennaro Gattuso will already bounce back. The former Italian glory will take the reins of Fiorentina, in difficulty this season.
This is what we call quickly moving on. Less than 48 hours after the announcement of his departure from Naples, Gennaro Gattuso was appointed coach of Fiorentina on Tuesday. The former Italian midfielder will be responsible for restoring the image of the Viola after a complicated season.
“Gennaro Gattuso will be Fiorentina’s new coach,” from July 1, President Rocco Commisso announced on the Tuscan club’s official website. He succeeds Giuseppe Iachini, recalled in March to ensure the maintenance (13th) after the surprise resignation of Cesare Prandelli.
To attract Gattuso, Fiorentina capped Lazio Rome who, according to several Italian media, was until midday the intended destination to welcome the ex-midfielder of AC Milan and ex-coach of Milan and from Naples, 43 years old.
Qualification in the Champions League missed, a failure that costs dear
Arrived in Naples to succeed Carlo Ancelotti, sacked in December 2019, when the team was undermined by dissension, Gennaro Gattuso had managed to win his first title as a coach by winning the Italian Cup in June 2020.
Naples, however, missed the number 1 goal of the season, qualifying for the Champions League, on Sunday, finishing only 5th in Serie A. A failure that cost the former Italian international dearly.
The departure of the ex-Milan midfielder was formalized just after the last day by the Neapolitan president Aurelio De Laurentiis. To succeed him, Christophe Galtier is announced as a priority candidate.
The Neapolitan board appreciates the profile of the French, champion of France with the LOSC this weekend. However, the Italian club is not the only one on the file and Galtier is also courted by OL and Nice, two tracks announced as hot in France.
