Before Euro 2020, the very serious football specialist Transfermarkt updated the market values of all players participating in the tournament. With the Belgian side several big increases and several decreases …
Transfermarkt clarifies that players’ market values are calculated taking into account different “pricing models.” A lot of factors are taken into account by the site to evaluate the players: the player’s statistics, his current form, the results obtained with his club, his age, his years of contract, etc.
After his great season at Inter Milan, Romelu Lukaku crosses the 100 million euro mark in market value. The Devils striker passes this bar for the second time in his career, the first time being when he was playing for Manchester United. He joined Kevin De Bruyne, whose value remained unchanged. The Inter striker is Italy’s most expensive player far ahead of Matthijs de Ligt (Juventus) and his 75 million euros.
Among the “winners”, we also find Yannick Carrasco who goes from 35 to 40 million following his good season which allowed Atletico Madrid to win La Liga. But also Jérémy Doku who sees his value increase slightly by 2 million euros (from 20 to 22 million euros). Just like Leandro Trossard, from 15 to 17 million euros.
Eden Hazard sees its value unchanged: 40 million euros. But Transfermarkt points out that its decline in value of 110 million in two years “remains remarkable.” More surprisingly, his Real Madrid teammate Thibaut Courtois sees his value drop from 75 to 60 million euros. Transfermarkt explains the drop as a general trend among top goalkeepers in the world.
The lackluster season of Real Madrid and his age (29) undoubtedly contribute to this decline despite his good season on a personal level and the fact that he has a contract until June 2024.
Other stabilization: Youri Tielemans. Leicester’s best player remains valued at € 55million. But he won 11 million euros in a year.
Defense in decline
Transfermarkt have also updated the values of Belgians Borussia Dortmund. For different reasons, the three players have had a complicated season. Axel Witsel sees his value drop from 12 million to 9 million due to his long unavailability and age (32), while Thorgan Hazard sees his value drop to 27 million euros following a drop of 5 million. Thomas Meunier is the only one who maintains his value (12 million euros) but it had already been planed during the last update.
Overall, our entire defense is seeing its market value drop: Toby Alderweireld (11 million), Jan Vertonghen (6 million), Thomas Vermaelen (900,000), Dedryck Boyata (8 million). The only ones who are on an upward curve are Jason Denayer and Timothy Castagne. The Lyon defense boss saw his value double in one year from 12 to 25 million euros. While the Leicester player is now worth 28 million euros against “only” 18 at the time of his visit to England.
