Six major players in the radio world (Altice Média *, Lagardère News, Groupe M6 radios, Les Indés Radios, NRJ Group and Radio France) have joined forces to launch Radioplayer France: a free application that makes it easy to listen to the majority of radios present in France.
All radios are welcome on this platform, provided they have a DAB + or FM frequency. Only Skyrock is missing because of different technological choices.
Highlight the richness of a varied offer
The objective of Radioplayer is to offer a representative range of the richness and diversity of the French radio landscape and its more than 200 radios (including Europe 1, France Inter, LesIndés Radios, NRJ, RMC, RTL) and more than 600 webradios .
In the coming days, new stations will join the legal offer: Podcasts have not been forgotten with nearly 100,000 episodes.
When using for the first time, the app asks you to select your favorite radio stations, but also your themes. It also asks you to enter your city to suggest local stations.
Suggestions are also provided with an algorithm that takes into account your preferences, but also data from Médiamétrie and the listening trends of users of the app.
The editor has also provided a function start-over which allows you to resume listening at the beginning of a program or a chronicle. This function will be implemented gradually.
The application offers additional information with, for example, the name of programs, artists and titles, as well as the 7-day program schedule.
Good news: Radioplayer does not add additional advertising before listening. The system is financed by the six main players, and to a lesser extent by the additional small radios.
In addition to the smartphone app (App Store, Apple, Play Store, Google, Huawei and soon Samsung Store), Radioplayer is also present on the Web, in connected speakers (Alexa, Bose, Sonos), in watches (Apple Watch, Android Wear), and in other systems such as Android TV (Samsung and LG later), but also Apple TV.

A system designed for in-car listening
Radioplayer also relies heavily on the car with agreements for use with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and SmartDeviceLink. Long-term agreements are planned with car manufacturers for a native experience in the car, without going through the smartphone.
Among the first signings were BMW, Volkswagen and Polestar (Volvo). The system is designed to keep the station you are listening to, wherever you are.
Thus, FM automatically takes the place of DAB in towns where the station is not available digitally. Streaming can also be substituted if needed.
Finally, Radioplayer has chosen the HLS (HTTP Live Streaming) protocol, which automatically adapts the audio quality according to network reception and even makes it possible to resume the interrupted stream when leaving a tunnel. In addition, this secure protocol prevents stream pirating.
Also to discover in video:
Radioplayer is originally a platform launched in 2010 in England by several radio stations, including the BBC. It is now present in 14 countries, in Europe and in Canada. The experience of other countries should enable French players to get off to a good start and avoid the bitter failure of the attempt that took place in 2014 with the Direct Radio app.
