“We are making a notable gesture for local businesses, by demanding that a significant portion of the masks that will be purchased for our schools and for our daycare services be made in Quebec,” the minister responsible for the hospital said Monday in a statement. Government administration and President of the Treasury Board, Sonia LeBel.
Two calls for tenders were thus placed to obtain 30% of window masks and 40% of pediatric masks supplied to schools directly from Quebec companies.
This decision will in particular make it possible to secure supplies in the province and avoid the shortage of personal protective equipment that arose during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This is a first step for the Secretariat of the Treasury Board, which intends to propose solutions by the summer to promote purchasing in Quebec on the public market.
“Our government intends to continue its actions to promote purchasing in Quebec in other areas,” said Sonia LeBel.
