After shining against Barça on Wednesday night (1-1) in the round of 16 of the Champions League, Keylor Navas impresses with another statistic. The Costa Rican goalkeeper has never been eliminated from a C1 home and away match. What to reassure the PSG for the rest of its European course?
He is the man of the qualification of PSG for the quarter-finals of the Champions League, with a draw conceded against Barça on Wednesday night (1-1). While his team could not find offensive solutions, Keylor Navas was able to counter the Catalan attacks. The Costa Rican rejected a penalty from Lionel Messi just before the break, a goal that would have allowed Barça to lead 2-1 and to make even more doubt Parisians already quite feverish. Navas knew how to carry his team, and this is not the first time.
Back to back insurance?
In C1, the former Madrilenian looks like all-risk insurance, and shines with an impressive statistic: he has never been eliminated from a round-trip match in the Champions League. With Real, Keylor Navas won three C1: in 2016, 2017 and 2018, each time as holder. And when things went less well for the Merengues, he was relegated to the bench. In 2015, when Real were eliminated in the semi-finals by Juventus, it was Iker Casillas who kept the Madrid cages. And when, in 2019, the Spaniards came out in the round of 16 by Ajax, Keylor Navas is also there on the bench, while Thibaut Courtois is the holder. Finally, last summer, PSG went to the final against Bayern.
So when Keylor Navas is around nothing can happen? Answer in the quarter-finals. The first leg matches are scheduled for April 6 and 7, and the comebacks a week later (April 13/14). The draw for the quarter-finals and semi-finals will take place on Friday March 19 in Nyon (12 noon).
