PSG: since 2017, the striker of Bayern wins the Champions League

PSG released a giant in Europe on Tuesday, despite their defeat in the Champions League quarterback (1-0) against Bayern Munich. Parisians can even start dreaming with a flattering statistic by relying on the course of the last four editions.

Of course, this statistic may be anecdote but still. Since 2017, the winner of Bayern Munich in the final stages of the Champions League then won the competition. With the logical exception of the latest edition, gleaned by the Bavarians against PSG.

Since 2017, Liverpool and Real Madrid have won by taking out Bayern Munich

Less than eight months after this final lost in Lisbon, PSG somehow took revenge and eliminated this European giant, although diminished by the absence of several important players including Robert Lewandowski, Leon Goretzka or Serge Gnabry. Dominated in the first leg despite their victory (3-2), the Parisians were this time more enterprising in attack in the wake of Neymar, but it was Eric-Maxim Choupo Moting who made his former teammates doubtful just before the break (40th).

The essential is achieved despite everything with this qualificaiton in the pocket for the semi-finals, where PSG will find either Manchester City or Borussia Dortmund. The previous two years, Zinédine Zidane’s Real Madrid had twice swept Bayern Munich to win in the most prestigious of European competitions. A first time first in the quarter-finals in 2016-2017 thanks to a huge Cristiano Ronaldo, author of five goals in the two meetings. Then the following year at the gates of the final, with a double from Karim Benzema in the return match. It is now up to PSG to continue this ongoing series.
