Scorer for PSG against Manchester City on Wednesday, Marquinhos has now scored in the quarter-finals and semi-finals of two consecutive Champions Leagues, like Cristiano Ronaldo and Antoine Griezmann before him.
Back against Manchester City this Wednesday evening, Marquinhos found PSG as he had left: by scoring. The Brazilian defender hadn’t played since April 7 and his early exit against Bayern Munich, minutes after cheating on Manuel Neuer.
Affected in the adductors, “Marqui” waited three weeks before finding his Parisian teammates. And against City, he wasted no time: on a corner from Angel Di Maria, his precise header deceived Ederson to open the scoring in the 15th minute.

Like last year, the PSG captain scored both in the quarter-finals and in the semi-finals of the Champions League. In 2020, during the Lisbon Final 8, he scored the goal of hope against Atalanta (2-1) then the first goal against Leipzig (3-0).
More goals than cards in C1
A rare performance: before him, only Cristiano Ronaldo and Antoine Griezmann scored in the quarter and semi-finals of two consecutive Champions Leagues. The Portuguese did it three times (from 2011-2012 to 2013-2014) and the Frenchman did it twice (in 2015-2016 and 2016-2017).
In his last two C1 campaigns, Marquinhos has scored five goals, more than any other defender. The Brazilian even has more achievements than yellow cards received (6), a rare statistic for a player playing in his post.
