After a very long soap opera, PSG formalized on Saturday the three-year contract extension of its star Neymar. The 29-year-old Brazilian is now linked with the Paris club until June 2025.
The soap opera is officially over. Neymar’s future is being written in France, in Paris. As announced in April by RMC Sport, everything was complete. The Brazilian striker has extended his contract with PSG. The capital club has formalized the long awaited information by Parisian supporters this Saturday at the beginning of the afternoon. Aged 29, “Ney” has signed up for three more seasons. The former Barça player, who was still contractually bound until 2022, is now under contract with PSG until June 2025. If he goes until the end of his lease, Neymar will then be 33 years old.
If we are not there yet, this extension marks the attachment that the star auriverde now has to the Parisian club. It was far from won several months ago. Arrived in the capital in 2017 for 222 million from Barça, “Ney” had two particularly eventful first seasons. Between repeated injuries and big blues, “Ney” did not immediately find his marks in Paris. In the summer of 2019, he even made a big push to return to Barcelona where his friends Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez were waiting for him with open arms. An arm wrestling that did not pass at all with the Parisian supporters, who were going to take him in disagreement upon his return to the Parc des Princes.
And now Mbappé?
The 2019-2020 season is the turning point. Ney shines, finally avoids injuring himself at important moments and guides PSG until Final 8 and then until the final of the Champions League (defeat against Bayern). Now happy and fulfilled in the locker room as in his life in Paris, he has also actively participated in the beautiful campaign of the Parisians this season, even if he missed the eighth against Barça and was not up to par during the semi-finals against Manchester City.
With this long-awaited extension, PSG can continue to aim very high. But Leonardo must complete another capital issue, that of Kylian Mbappé. Like his Brazilian friend, the world champion is under contract until 2022. The Frenchman is still in the process of thinking. It remains to be seen whether he will make the same choice as his friend Neymar.
