For their first match during the Olympics 201 football tournament, against Mexico, the players of the France team wear a jersey where the two world champion stars of the Blues do not appear. Olympic specificity.
The French Olympic football team kicked off the Tokyo Games for the French delegation this Thursday, July 22, playing their very first match against Mexico. On the lawn of the Ajinomoto stadium in the Japanese capital, Sylvain Ripoll’s players wear a jersey that is very different from that of Didier Deschamps’ proteges during the Euro.

A different rooster and no star
A slightly revised rooster and the two absent world champion stars: the Blues jersey for the Olympics is different from that worn by Kylian Mbappé, Karim Benzema and Antoine Griezmann during their elimination against Switzerland (1-1, 4-5 tab), in the round of 16 of Euro 2021, on June 28.
The reason is simple. The French Olympic team is an offshoot of the French hopeful team, which has no star on its jersey. It is for this reason that the players who participate in the Olympics will not count additional official selection with the France A team.
No star in the event of a gold medal
The rooster is different because it is that of the French Olympic delegation and not the logo of the French Football Federation. These distinct characteristics will not change, even though Ripoll players win the gold medal in Tokyo on August 7th.
The French Olympic football team had indeed won the final of the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. However, no star was registered on the jersey of the Blues thereafter, neither in 1996 when they last participated, nor in Tokyo. We will therefore have to get used to this starless jersey for the Blues matches in Japan.
