During a press conference organized in the wake of this meeting, Estanguet explained what the organizing committee has planned for Sunday August 8, the day of the closing ceremony of the 2021 Olympics and which will serve as a transfer of power for Paris. “We will present Paris 2024, show the progress of our project and say that we are proud and ready to take over from Tokyo,” explained the Frenchman.
A “symbolic and important” ceremony
Part of the ceremony will take place at Place du Trocadéro on August 8, with the participation of Woodkid and the French National Orchestra. “This handover ceremony, it is symbolic and important. It is the entry into our Olympiad for ten minutes, a taste of Paris 2024,” said Tony Estanguet.
The three-time Olympic champion (2000, 2004, 2012) will attend the canoe slalom event in Tokyo on Sunday before returning to France to attend this very first official ceremony in Paris 2024. An event that will officially launch the countdown until the start of the next Olympics in the French capital.
