Currently sports director of Olympique Lyonnais, Juninho will seek to obtain his coaching diplomas. The Brazilian has been interviewed to enter the 2021-2022 promotion of the football coach certificate (BEF).
At 46, Juninho could soon sit on a coaching bench. The former Brazilian glory of Olympique Lyonnais spent this Friday an interview with Tola Vologe in order to enter the 2021-2022 promotion of the football coach certificate (BEF).
This training, open to former players and educators, now sees several ex-professionals taking an interest in it. The former goalkeeper Rémy Vercoutre and other candidates apply for this diploma which is a necessary step before being able to train a Ligue 1 team. Recently retired, Anthony Le Tallec appears for example in this batch.
The training takes place over one year, at a rate of six weeks of training. It allows in particular to train up to Regional 1 (R1). If he validates this stage, Juninho will then pass the diploma of senior trainer (DES), also over one year. This is the intermediate level between the BEF and the professional football trainer certificate (BEPF), the last sesame for coaching in Ligue 1.
As a reminder, Juninho already has managerial qualifications from UEFA, as he himself confided at a press conference in 2019, when he was inducted into the post of sports director while Sylvinho was then appointed coach of the OL.
Juninho has never hidden his interest in a future as a coach
After hanging up his boots, Juninho has never hidden his desire to coach one day, however, not wanting to rush things by starting from the premise that a good player does not necessarily make a good coach.
“It is not because my name is Juninho, that I have a history in Lyon, that I will not be fired after three, four, five or six months if things do not go well”, said the Brazilian after OL’s defeat against Angers in December 2015.
But the Lyon leader wants to resume his apprenticeship to potentially sit on a coaching bench in a few years. This will require first obtaining the BEF, for which he has been interviewed, then the DES and finally the BEPF. A diploma that Cris or even Christophe Delmotte had this year.
