Haven’t managed to get your hands on a nice GeForce RTX30 in recent months? Reassure your banker, you should have even more trouble in the next quarter. While the semiconductor shortage situation is expected to start to subside in the middle / end of the year, the months ahead are likely to be the worst.
In a post since unpublished (but remembered by some sites), a very large Dutch seller shared part of his discussion with Nvidia about the availability of valuable graphics cards.
So the chance to get your hands on an RTX 3080 “Is almost zero […] for new orders ». RTX 3070 and RTX 3090 are coming in “Very small quantities”, as for the RTX3060 Ti, eagerly awaited for their good performance / price ratio.
To this we must add that “Unfortunately, the supply of GTX cards from the previous generation is also very low”. The final blow is that this shortage leads to a sharp rise in prices.
The causes you know in part: demand is exploding, the yield of Samsung’s 8nm process is not yet optimal, GDDR6 video memory is sorely lacking (everyone, AMD is also suffering), cryptocurrency miners (in particular Chinese) are thrown on cards (even in laptops!), etc.
The first quarter is therefore devastated for the graphics industry, the beginning of a decline is expected around April / May, with a gradual increase in production (and deliveries!) From this summer.
