Laurent Batlles, current coach of Troyes (leader of Ligue 2) should succeed Michel Der Zakarian on the bench of Montpellier next season.
Montpellier has found the successor of Michel Der Zakarian. As announced on Twitter by Mohamed Toubache-Ter, close to the Montpellier club, Laurent Batlles, under contract in Troyes until 2023, should succeed the Franco-Armenian coach on the bench of the MHSC.
According to a source close to Troyes, owned by the City Football Group, the Aube club was wondering about the future of Laurent Batlles. The former OM player has, however, achieved miracles in Ligue 2 since he arrived, only two years ago.
Laurent Batlles led the club to fourth place last year, for his first experience as number one. This season, the club have played a remarkable score, developing an extremely attractive football, inspired by the playing philosophy of its coach, resolutely turned towards the offensive.
In conquered land in Montpellier
The time to impose his daring and his ideas, and the club could aim for a new rise in the elite, the third in six years, which he should end up obtaining this weekend. For all these reasons, the Batlles option was very quickly considered an absolute priority for the leaders of Hérault, who were also won over by the personality of Batlles.
A personality they haven’t discovered this season. And for good reason, Batlles knows the entire club staff, former players Bruno Carotti (sports director), Jean-Christophe Rouvière (development and merchandising director) and Philippe Delaye (sports coordinator). The first two evolved in Toulouse, where Laurent Batlles was trained and played.
The third was Laurent Batlles’ teammate in Rennes and Bastia. These three men have power at the MHSC and are part of Laurent Nicollin’s very closed circle. This knowledge will facilitate the integration of Laurent Batlles, who is not from the Montpellier seraglio but is closely linked with the leaders of the club.
The departure of Laurent Batlles could be formalized as soon as the rise of Troyes is acquired, so potentially tonight. The former midfielder must now break free from his contract and negotiate with club leaders.
