Will Windows 10X operating system ever be released by Microsoft? We can ask ourselves the question as the delays accumulate. According to sources close to the publisher, Windows 10X will not be released in 2021 and the resources dedicated to it at Microsoft are reallocated to Windows 10.
Windows 10X was announced in 2019, at the same time as the Surface Duo and Surface Neo devices. This modular and streamlined version of Windows 10 was initially aimed at devices with two screens. But Microsoft then completely changed its strategy. In 2020, Windows 10X is positioned as the competitor of Google’s Chrome OS. It was then advertised as a light version of Windows 10 intended for single-screen machines.

Is this version still relevant and above all, will users accept it? Windows experiences Light at Microsoft have hardly been conclusive and the publisher undoubtedly sees more potential in Windows 10. If the new update 21H1, which should be released this month will hardly bring anything new, Microsoft expects a lot of version 21H2, codenamed Sun Valley, which should benefit from a much more modern user interface. As a result, technologies originally planned for Windows 10X may ultimately end up in Windows 10.
