Mexico City: On Monday, at least 23 people were killed and 70 others were injured when a part of the bridge fell on a train going through an underground bridge in Mexico City. This information has been received from the authorities. In an interview with the local TV station on Tuesday, Mexico City Mayor Claudia Shinbaum said the accident occurred on Monday night when a concrete beam fell on her while passing the metro train, reported Xinhua. The footage showed rescuers using ladders to pull passengers from train trains as they were hanging from the bridge. Shinbaum said that due to the train’s unstable state, rescue efforts had to be postponed. Residents had complained about the demolition of the pillars on the route of the metro line 12 years ago. There were also allegations of corruption in the construction of the line. Long after the opening of Line 12 in 2014, service for repairs was interrupted for months.
