Mercato: Barça executives would refuse to lower their salary to extend Messi

According to Cadena Cope, FC Barcelona would consider the hypothesis of a drop in the salaries of several executives of the team to be able to comply with the salary limit and thus officialize the extension of Lionel Messi. The players’ representatives have reportedly refused this proposal.

FC Barcelona is facing a rather special situation, with its captain Lionel Messi who no longer belongs to the club since July 1. The Argentinian did not extend before this deadline and is now free to commit where he wishes. The Catalan club must now find a solution to reach an agreement.

A salary limit for Barça

If the trend seems all the same so that Messi can continue, for two more seasons, the obstacle lies in the important salary of the player, all the more in a context where Barça finds itself confronted with economic difficulties. According to Cadena Cope, in any case, it will not be necessary to count on the support of the rest of the locker room.

One solution considered was that several executives of the Catalan locker room accept a reduction in their salary, in order to be able to offer a contract to Lionel Messi. Barca have to contend with a salary cap imposed by La Liga and there have been meetings in recent hours to see how this issue can be addressed.

“What is signed is signed”, meanwhile assure the representatives of the main players of Barça. Joan Laporta, president since last March, will have to find a solution to announce soon the extension of Lionel Messi, objective announced during his electoral campaign.
