Ahmedabad, Dec 2 (Gujarat) The Gujarat High Court on Wednesday directed the state government to make it compulsory to do community service at Kovid-19 care center besides imposing a fine on those who violate the rule of wearing masks. A bench of Chief Justice Vikram Nath and Justice JB Pardiwala said in its order that those violating the rule be sent to the Kovid-19 care center for community service. They can be employed in non-medical work such as cleanliness under community service. Violators can be sent for four to six hours daily for five to 15 days. The court gave this order while hearing a PIL. The petition requested instructions to mandate community service at the Kovid-19 care center for violators of the rule of wearing masks. The bench said that cases of Kovid-19 have increased due to people not applying masks, not following proper distances. Several scientific studies have proved the fact that wearing a mask against the virus is an effective remedy. The bench said that this is the time that people get into the habit of wearing masks. The court said, “We are of the opinion that the state should issue a policy or order in which community service is provided for not wearing masks and their service can be determined based on the nature of the violation.” , “Therefore, we direct the state to bring a notification in this regard providing for penalty and community service for not wearing masks”. The court also termed the state government’s stand on the issue as “unfortunate”. And said that the state should take necessary precautionary measures at such a time. “Given the seriousness of the situation, due to the government’s stand, we have no option but to issue instructions,” the bench said. The job of the state government is to protect its people and take better steps for their betterment. ”The petition, filed through advocate Vishal Avatani, said that many people were violating the rules which led to increase in Kovid-19 cases happened . The Gujarat government on Tuesday informed the High Court that it is very difficult to monitor whether those who were punished for not wearing masks did community service in Kovid-19 care centers.
