With his double scored in LOSC’s victory against Lens (3-0), Burak Yilmaz brought his total league goals to 15. Among the players aged 35 or over in the European top 5, only Cristiano Ronaldo did better .
There is only Cristiano Ronaldo above Burak Yilmaz. In the Northern derby on Friday night, the 35-year-old Turkish striker made a capital performance by scoring two of three goals in Losc’s victory against Racing Club de Lens. This double allows him to score 15 league goals this season (17 in all competitions). An excellent total which places him second in the ranking of scorers aged 35 or over in the five major European leagues.
As Opta reports, this ranking is dominated by Cristiano Ronaldo. From the height of his 36 years, the Portuguese have shaken the nets 27 times this season. With his 15 goals, Burak Yilmaz is in fact neck and neck with Zlatan Ibrahimovic (39), whose counter with AC Milan has been blocked since March 21.
Five goals in six shots
Another statistic offered by Opta shows that Burak Yilmaz has been in great shape since returning from injury. In his last three games, the Turkish striker has only needed six shots to score five goals (the other was pushed back by a post). He had indeed scored a brace against Olympique Lyonnais (3-2 victory) and opened the scoring against OGC Nice (2-0) before defeating RC Lens.
Absent in January and February because of a calf injury, Burak Yilmaz played 25 games for his first season in Ligue 1. A great deal that cost nothing in transfer compensation for Losc, who had it. recruited for two years at the end of his contract at Besiktas.
