Last Thursday, Adrian Grbic openly attacked Christophe Pélissier, coach of Lorient, who according to him “ruined” his season. This Monday, the Breton club reacts and affirms in Ouest-France that the Austrian player will be summoned to “remind him of his obligations”.
Is this a breakup or an attempt to calm things down? FC Lorient told Ouest-France on Monday that Adrian Grbic will soon be summoned by his leaders “to notify him of the consequences of his statements and remind him of his obligations”. The Lorient striker had surprised the Lorient leaders by addressing the Austrian press agency (APA) last Thursday, openly criticizing his trainer Christophe Pélissier.
A disappointing first season in Lorient
“When Terem Moffi arrived, I was told not to stress, that he would play on one side and that I will be the striker. As soon as Moffi arrived, he started up front, and I I understood that something was wrong. I could do a good performance in training, it did not change anything “, explained Grbic last week, while he was part of the larger group of Austria to play Euro 2020. The striker has since been removed from the final list.
These statements did not fall on deaf ears when FC Lorient spent nine million euros – a significant amount for a promoted – to acquire the second top scorer of the last season of Ligue 2. Despite this investment, Grbic has disappointed this season, with just four goals in 33 Ligue 1 games.
“It will be difficult to work together again”
“It will be complicated to work together again (with Pélissier, editor’s note), too many things have happened. They have ruined my season. I have been marginalized. It is the truth, and I do not wish it on anyone”, explains Grbic at APA. Lorient has therefore decided to take the lead by indicating to Ouest-France that an “interview will be fixed in the coming days with the player”.
Grbic, 24, is under contract with the Breton club until 2025. The question now arises as to whether the Austrian will be able to continue his adventure in Lorient even though he does not seem to want to continue his career under the orders of Pelissier. Les Merlus will announce the follow-up to this affair in the coming days.
