Because of the draw conceded against Pau (2-2) and a too important goal difference compared to Clermont, second, Toulouse FC will a priori have to compete in the play-offs to hope to find Ligue 1 next season.
Clermont in Ligue 1, it’s as if it was done. Thanks to the 2-2 draw conceded by Toulouse FC against Pau, in a late match of the 35th day of Ligue 2, the Auvergne club is almost guaranteed to finish in second place which ensures direct promotion among the elite.
With one game to go, the TFC, which secured 3rd place, is three points behind Clermont. But the goal difference between the two teams is a priori too large for the places to be reversed (+37 against +29). The Violets will therefore go through the promotion dams, to hope to evolve in L1 next season.
On Saturday, Clermont will end its beautiful season with a trip to the lawn of the Stade Malherbe de Caen, while Toulouse will challenge Dunkirk. Troyes, who has already secured his title of champion and his rise, will be in Le Havre.
The maintenance almost in pocket for Pau
If the draw at the Stadium destroyed the hopes of TFC, it’s a whole different story for Pau. This point allows the Pau club to climb to 15th place, with now three lengths ahead of the red zone.
The maintenance is also almost assured, because Caen and Chambly, 18th and 19th respectively, have far too negative goal differences.
