The Minister Delegate in charge of Sports Roxana Maracinanu gave her expectations concerning the meeting scheduled with several players in French football next Tuesday.
The Ministry of Sports, accompanied by Bruno Le Maire (Economy), will discuss during a meeting scheduled for next Tuesday with a delegation representing professional football clubs, to discuss their management difficulties related to the health crisis, which has engendered that of TV rights.
“We proposed, even before they asked us, to make this meeting where we will meet Vincent Labrune and some clubs mandated to come and discuss the conditions of assistance”, explained this Saturday the Minister Delegate in charge of Sports Roxana Maracineanu. The former swimmer was also pleased to have released these “107 million euros which will return to professional clubs”, and not just football, “which have suffered from behind closed doors until now”.
Maracineanu: “This crisis, we must manage it all together”
The purpose of these discussions with French football clubs will focus on the additional help that the government could provide to professional football, already well helped since the start of the health crisis linked to the coronavirus, with partial unemployment and guaranteed loans. by the State, but also exemptions from charge.
“If there is other aid to be provided, we will consider it, but in general, we will discuss with them the themes of governance of professional football”, promised the minister, while a bill LREM on sport, dealing mainly with the governance of federations, was presented to the National Assembly at the end of January.
Roxana Maracineanu also spoke of themes related to cost reduction in clubs. Because “this crisis, we must manage it all together, she asserted. And not only with the efforts of the State, which were consequent and which, of course, answered, that it is for professional sport , but also for amateur sport, in the management of this crisis “. The clubs will also be faced with their responsibilities.
For amateur sport, Roxana Maracineanu confirmed that the State would compensate for the loss of the Buffet tax levied on TV rights, “so that amateur sport does not suffer from it”. “There is a decrease in what this tax has to report to the budget of the Ministry of Sports since you know that the budget of the Ministry of Sports is partially indexed to this tax. And therefore, the decrease in TV rights has impacted this budget”, she said to explain this gesture.
