Jonathan Varane, Raphaël’s half-brother, was integrated into the RC Lens group for the first time for the trip to Brest on Sunday.
Almost ten years after Raphael’s last match with RC Lens, in May 2011, a Varane will be in the Lensois group again this Sunday against Brest. Jonathan Varane, 19 and half-brother of the world champion, was selected by Franck Haise, the trainer of the Sang et Or.
Midfielder capable of playing recuperator or torchbearer, Jonathan Varane was trained as a striker. He takes advantage of the absence of several confirmed absent players (Sotoca, Fofana, Medina, Gradit) to find a place in the Lensois group, accompanied by several other players from the reserve.
Less precocious than Raphaël
The younger brother of the siblings, Jonathan, from a second union with the father of the Varanes, is eight years younger than Raphaël (27). He will have had to wait a little longer than his brother to join the professional group. Jonathan is 19 years old while Raphaël, a precocity phenomenon, was called by Jean-Guy Wallemme at 17, in 2010.
For RC Lens, current fifth in Ligue 1, a victory in Brest would allow them to distance themselves from Rennes and Marseille in the race for Europe.
