In such a situation Russell said on the Instagram with Ashwin, ‘2002 was the final match of the Champions Trophy, I think we were playing in Sri Lanka and we had reached around 200 score, I played a late cut shot and 2 on the wicket Take 3 steps forward. It has been almost 18 years now, so I will tell honestly. I went two-three steps ahead, everybody does that. Sourav Ganguly immediately came and shouted something, he confronts me and said, “Stop molesting the main area of the pitch.” Nothing happened, then Dravid came to me and said, ‘Ras, don’t run in the Danger area on the pitch.’ It was simply a debate. When we played with Sourav, he was very competitive. He used to answer well. It was also easy to tease them, they always had answers.

Russell went on to say about the incident, ‘It was a good debate, nothing more had happened than this, it was all done within the realm. All this was not against sportsmanship. I think this incident was simply overstated. I just went three steps ahead. ‘
Let us know that Russell of Srilanka had scored 18 not out off 18 balls in that match, while Sanath Jayasuriya played an innings of 74 runs. But this final of the Champions Trophy was canceled.
