After the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, Israel’s relations with Saudi Arabia, the most powerful of the Gulf countries, seem to be moving rapidly towards normalization. In a major development of its kind, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived in Niom City on Sunday to meet with Saudi Arabia’s Prince Mohammed bin Sultan and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. Chief Yossi Cohen of the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad was also present.
This highly confidential meeting between the four people took place in the city of Niom, Saudi Arabia. The Israeli PM’s office has not commented on the meeting but his plane has been tracked to Saudi Arabia. The United States has been continuously emphasizing on normalizing relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel, and for the first time there has been such a high level meeting.
According to the Israeli newspaper Haritz, this is the plane through which Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has met with Russian President Vladimir Putin several times. The US Secretary of State has been trying for a long time to normalize relations with Israel in order to deal with the threat of Iran. Saudi Arabia has so far denied normalization of relations with Israel. Saudi Arabia has said that the issue of Palestinians should be resolved first.
