This is the first time that Skoda Rapid CNG Spy images have been found during the testing phase. According to the leaked images of the audiogram, the Skoda Rapid was captured on camera while filling at the CNG gas station. There is no camouflage on this testing vehicle and it has a provisional test registration number.
Apart from that, there are no design changes in this testing vehicle. Looking at all this, it seems that there will be no changes in terms of design and features in the new Rapid CNG sedan coming from Skoda Auto. It looks a lot like its petrol version overall.
The new 2020 Skoda Rapid sedan is only available with a petrol engine option. It uses a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder TSI petrol engine. The engine produces a maximum power of 108 bhp at 5500 rpm and 175 Nm of torque at 1750 rpm. The engine is mated to a standard six-speed manual gearbox as well as an optional six-speed torque converter to the automatic gearbox.
The company is looking to offer the same engine in the CNG version with a factory-fitted CNG kit. However, the CNG variant power and torque figures are likely to decrease slightly. In addition, the CNG version will offer higher mileage than the petrol version.
The 2020 Skoda Rapid is currently available in the market in six different variants. They are Rider, Rider Plus, Ambition, Onyx, Style and Mont Carlo. It seems that the company may release CNG options in the entry-level variants of this sedan, the Rider and the Rider Plus. Skoda Rapid prices in the market range from Rs 7.49 lakh to Rs 13.29 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
The car features integrated LED DRLs, LED tail lamps, dark green-tinted windows, 16-inch alloy wheels and chrome garnish on various parts of the sedan, such as the front grille and window line.
The interiors include automatic climate control, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple car play and Android auto, scuff plates, flat-bottom steering wheel, leather upholstery, cruise control and semi-digital instrument.
Safety features in the Skoda Rapid include multiple airbags, ABS, EBD, rearview camera and sensors, brake assist, auto-dimming internal rear-view mirror, Isofix child seat mounts, and rain-sensing wipers.
The Skoda Rapid sedan is currently available in the market with only one engine option. In this context, the company hopes to launch a new CNG variant to boost rapid sales. In the Indian market, Skoda Rapid competes with models such as Hyundai Verna, Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Volkswagen Ventola. There is currently no competition in this segment for the upcoming Rapid sedan with a factory-fitted CNG kit.
