If you follow Apple news diligently, you probably know Ming-Chi Kuo. This TF International Securities analyst has built his reputation on his excellent sources in the new technology industry, who keep him informed about orders placed by Apple. This allows him to guess what the brand is planning several years in advance, and to inform the media. With a few bad predictions, almost all of his information has been proven to be correct.
Today, Kuo is attacking the iPhone of 2022. Four models would be offered, in two formats.
The end of the iPhone mini
For several months, we regularly read that the iPhone 12 mini does not meet with great success. Despite this disillusionment, Apple would have decided to launch an iPhone 13 mini this year, probably because its short-term strategy is too well established to be turned upside down. We would have to wait until 2022 to see the 5.4-inch format abandoned.
According to Kuo, there will be four iPhones in 2022. In addition to two “Pro” models of 6.1 and 6.7 inches (like today), the brand would launch two classic models of 6.1 and… 6.7 inches. People who want a large iPhone would no longer have to look to the more expensive model.

48 Mpix and 8K at Apple
Finally, Ming-Chi Kuo reveals that Apple is preparing to follow the manufacturers of Android smartphones at the photo level. In 2022, the Californian brand would abandon its small 12 Mpix sensor for… a 48 Mpix sensor, a feature well known to owners of competing smartphones. Kuo nevertheless claims that Apple would do better than its rivals with a sensor that would be exclusive to it, capable of creating giant pixels thanks to the pixel–binning (2.5um). The latter could also film in 8K, which would allow Apple to catch up with brands like Samsung.
