Chandigarh, November 17 (Language) The Haryana government has decided to extend the period of parole or interim bail to convicted prisoners released in the wake of the Kovid-19 epidemic by 31 December.

Jail Minister Ranjit Singh Chautala said that about 7000 prisoners are on parole or interim bail.
Most of these prisoners were released on interim or regular bail, parole, or extended parole. Earlier, the state government had decided to release convicted prisoners convicted of imprisonment up to seven years or undertrials likely to be sentenced to long imprisonment if convicted.
However, foreign prisoners are not involved in this. Prisoners convicted in cases of drug trafficking, rape, acid attack were also not released. Chautala said that since his parole period was coming to an end, it has been decided to extend it till December 31.
He said that the High Powered Committee headed by Justice Rajiv Sharma, Judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court which also included Additional Chief Secretary (Home) and Director General of Police (Jail), had recently met on the issue of prisoners whose The state government subsequently decided to extend the parole period.
