Ahmedabad, November 11 (Language) In the assembly by-elections in Gujarat, the BJP won eight seats at the expense of the Congress and its base seems to be shrinking. The Congress won 77 seats in the December 2017 assembly elections. After Tuesday’s victory, the number of BJP members has increased to 111 in the 182-member assembly, while Congress MLAs have come down to 65. In the 2017 assembly elections, Congress won 77 seats and BJP won 99 seats. Since then, the BJP has been harming the Congress. December 2018 by-elections

Ahmedabad, November 11 (Language) In the assembly by-elections in Gujarat, BJP won eight seats at the expense of the Congress and its base seems to be shrinking. The Congress won 77 seats in the December 2017 assembly elections. After Tuesday’s victory, the number of BJP members has increased to 111 in the 182-member assembly, while Congress MLAs have come down to 65. In the 2017 assembly elections, Congress won 77 seats and BJP won 99 seats. Since then, the BJP has been harming the Congress. In the December 2018 by-election, Congress veteran Kunwarji Bavaliya won on a BJP ticket. In this way, the strength of the Congress in the Legislative Assembly was reduced to 76 while the number of BJP members increased to 100. In May 2019, BJP won all four seats, which were vacated by the resignation of Congress MLAs. Later, two more Congress MLAs left the party and joined the BJP. Also, four seats were vacated after four BJP MLAs resigned after becoming MP. After this, by-elections were held in six seats in October 2019. Of these, BJP and Congress won three seats each. With this, the number of BJP members in the Legislative Assembly was 103 while the number of Congress MLAs was 73. Before the Rajya Sabha elections this year, eight Congress MLAs resigned from the assembly. In this way, the Congress MLA was reduced to 65. These eight seats were held on November 3.
