Tony Parker did not appreciate being mentioned on the list of supporters of Frédéric Thiriez, candidate for the presidency of the French Football Federation. The latter apologized to the former basketball player.
This is obviously a big misunderstanding. In a message published this Thursday on his Twitter account, Tony Parker expressed his incomprehension after discovering that his name was associated with that of former lawyer Frédéric Thiriez, candidate for the presidency of the French Football Federation.
“I am surprised to learn that I am part of Frédéric Thiriez’s support list for the presidency of the FFF via his website. I strongly deny this information and I do not appreciate that my image is used without my authorization!” , commented the ex-basketball player and current boss of Asvel. After this clarification, Parker was removed from the support committee and Thiriez apologized to him.
Thiriez opposed to Moulin and Le Graët
On his website, the former president of the Professional Football League indicates that he has the support of many personalities in the world of sport (Djibril Cissé, Emmanuel Petit, Florent Manaudou, Jackson Richardson, Yannick Noah, Ladji Doucouré …) and of culture (the Passi and Soprano singers, the actors Gérard Depardieu and Kad Merad, the host Camille Combal…). In this race for the presidency of the FFF, Thiriez is opposed to the entrepreneur Michel Moulin and to Noël Le Graët, president of the FFF since 2011 and candidate for a fourth term.
The vote for the next four-year term, initially scheduled for December, must be held at a general assembly of the FFF on March 13.
