A study conducted by a digital marketing company established the 11 most searched Blues on Google in 2021. In the lead, the attacking trio of the France team: Kylian Mbappé, Antoine Griezmann and Karim Benzema. The surprise comes from the goalie position, where Steve Mandanda is numerically more popular than Hugo Lloris.
Is a player’s popularity measured by the number of searches on Google? In any case, it is the tool chosen by Semrush, a company specializing in digital marketing, to get an idea. The study published Thursday counts the searches carried out on Google.fr in 2021 concerning the players selected for the Euro and establishes a monthly average.
Pogba and Kimpembe in the top 5
The leading player is Kylian Mbappé, with 311,250 monthly searches on average this year. Behind him, his two teammates who form the attack of the Blues: Antoine Griezmann (286,000) and Karim Benzema (265,000), both well ahead of the rest of the team. Paul Pogba (56.125) and Presnel Kimpembe (45.175) completed the top 5.
The surprise, however, concerns the goalkeeper position. According to Semrush, the Marseillais Steve Mandanda is more sought after by French Internet users than Hugo Lloris, with 27,850 monthly requests on average on Google.fr, against 21,225 for the captain.
Cristiano Ronaldo, leading 11 Europe
Semrush has also established a team roster of the most sought after Euro players on the web (not including the French). Thus, the most “popular” player in the competition is Cristiano Ronaldo and his 226,000 monthly requests on average this year, ahead of Robert Lewandowski (123,000) and Eden Hazard (61,750) despite his new difficult season. We find in particular Marco Verratti, Alessandro Florenzi and Kevin De Bruyne.
