Austria’s victory against Ukraine and Russia’s defeat against Denmark on Monday allowed the Blues to qualify for the round of 16 of the Euro without even having to play. Like France, ten other nations have already validated their tickets for the next round. We take stock.
The veil is gradually lifting on the nations qualified for the round of 16 of Euro 2021. This Monday, new teams obtained their tickets for the final phase, which begins on Saturday 26 June. Here is everything you need to know about the selections that we will see in action from next weekend in the competition.
They have their ticket for the 8th
Eleven teams are already guaranteed to go further in the competition. Winners of their three matches, Italy (group A), Belgium (group B) and the Netherlands (group C) will be in the game with their first place. In the second, Wales, Austria and Denmark have also validated their tickets. Finally, with four points on the clock, five teams are guaranteed to finish third in their group at worst: France, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, England and Sweden.
They are in ballot
They still have to fight to get their qualification. In this little game, Finland and Ukraine, both 3rd in their group with three points, do not start with a head start because of their negative goal difference. A difference that could be expensive once their opponents have also played their three group matches.
Croatia and Scotland (Group D), who face each other in Group D, will both aim for victory, a necessary condition to reach a new level. In group E, Spain, Slovakia and Poland can still hang their tickets while in the group of France, Hungary, Germany and Portugal can also qualify. Or ten teams in waivers this Monday evening.
They are eliminated
Despite having fought to the end, the North Macedonia of Goran Pandev could not do anything on Monday against the Netherlands (0-3) and left the Euro with zero points. Ditto for Turkey, beaten Sunday night by Switzerland (1-3) and who left the competition by the back door. Finally, despite a victory against Finland in the second group match, Russia let its chance fly away in Copenhagen against Denmark (1-4) and has already stopped.
