Electric bike: Canyon launches Grail: ON, an e-gravel weighing less than 16 kg

On Sunday 29.3, Mustache’s electric gravel will soon find someone to talk to. Indeed, Canyon has just formalized its counter-offensive with a particularly well endowed electric gravel. To achieve this bike capable of being efficient both on the roads and on the trails, the German manufacturer did not content itself with adding an engine and a battery to its historic gravel, the Grail. He almost started with a blank sheet of paper, keeping only the general idea of the design as well as the most successful elements of the muscular version.

In order to design this E-gravel, Canyon was forced to increase the wheelbase of the bike and equip it with 50mm wheels offering more comfort and stability.
From the classic version of the Grail, the manufacturer kept the “Double Decker” cockpit that made the bike famous as well as the flexible VCLS 2.0 seat post. Another consequence of electrification: the geometry of the bike has been largely modified to favor the search for comfort.

The best Bosch motor at its service

Finally, in terms of assistance Canyon has opted for the most powerful of Bosch engines, the 4th generation Performance Line CX. It boasts 85 Nm of torque and progressive assistance that can reach 340% of the pedaling power.
On the battery side, the choice of the classic Bosch 500 Wh battery seems relevant and would offer the gravel up to 120 km of autonomy. Where the choice of Canyon is more surprising, however, is on the display, a simple Purion model that seems somewhat dated, not to say low-end, given the ambitions of the bike.

But the main advantage of Grail: ON is elsewhere, it rests in its relatively reduced weight. Indeed, in its most worked version, it weighs less than 16 kg (15.9 kg exactly) and weighs only 17.1 kg on its entry-level version. For comparison, Mustache’s Sunday 29.3 weighs 18.8 kg.
