Jo-Wilfried Tonsga on Monday denied any involvement in the candidacy of Frédéric Thiriez for the presidency of the French Football Federation. The tennis player also regretted a clumsiness of the former boss of the LFP about him.
In the end there will only be one… or almost. Candidate declared for the presidential election to the FFF, Frédéric Thiriez has lost new support. Or rather, the former leader of the LFP has never benefited from the support of tennis player Jo-Wilfried Tsonga despite his presence among the personalities on the list “Federate energies” presented by the rival of Noël Le Graët.
“I do not personally know Mr. Fréderic Thiriez, launched the current 62nd player in the world in a message shared on social networks. I have even less given him my support for the presidency of the FFF.”
Tsonga: “You might as well do it with the right spelling”
After the former basketball player and boss of Asvel Tony Parker or the rapper Soprano and the former hurdler Ladji Doucouré, here is another true-false support of prestige which flies away for Frédéric Thiriez.
Like “TP”, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga did not appreciate very little to see his image associated with that of the leader. Especially if his name is tarnished on the electoral list… When presenting his support, Frédéric Thiriez had presented the 35-year-old player under the surname of “Wilfrid Tsonga”.
“Even if it means using my name and my image, you might as well do it with the correct spelling,” concluded the winner of the 2017 Davis Cup. A twist that questions the composition of Frédéric Thiriez’s support. A list of personalities which includes in particular the actor Gérard Depardieu, the presenter Cécile de Ménibus, Yannick Noah or the former coach of PSG, Luis Fernandez.
Enough to increase the pressure before the presidential election at the head of the FFF scheduled for March 13. For the moment three men are officially candidates to lead the body: Noël Le Graët, Michel Moulin and therefore Frédéric Thiriez.
