Cycling: Cofidis extends its commitment until 2025

The Cofidis company, present in the peloton since 1997, has decided to extend its commitment until 2025. The budget of the French team will even increase from 11.5 to 13 million euros annually and a female team will be launched.

The historic red and white jersey of the Cofidis team will continue to occupy the pelotons at least until 2025, the date until which the new commitment of the credit company with its cycling team runs. Back in the World Tour, the first world division, since 2019, Cofidis wants to continue his ascent.

“Our idea is not to be the best team in the world but to improve every year,” explained team president Thierry Vittu. Cofidis’ budget will thus increase by 1.5 million euros to reach 13 million euros annually. Enough to surround leaders Guillaume Martin and Elia Viviani, and to be between 10th and 15th place in the UCI ranking, according to Thierry Vittu.

A female team in 2022

Cofidis’ main challenge, for the next few years, will then be to find the path to victory in the Tour de France. Since Sylvain Chavanel’s victory at Montluçon in 2008, the northern team has not won a single stage on the Grande Boucle. A statistic that is difficult for a historic French team.

Finally, Cofidis’ new commitment will be an opportunity to open up certain horizons with the launch of a women’s team in 2022, whose annual budget will be one million euros. Cofidis thus joins Groupama-FDJ and Arkéa-Samsic, the two other French structures which have a male and a female team.
