In a statement published on Tuesday, the Ministry of National Education, Youth and Sports announced the extension, for the first half of 2021, of aid to professional clubs which are suffering loss of income of ticket office due to closed doors.
The government has partly heeded the call of professional sports clubs. Two months ago, the LFP met to call on the state for an “emergency support plan” to come to the aid of the clubs. This Tuesday, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports partially responded to this request.
An extension of the aid “because of the maintenance of closed doors”
In a press release published today, the ministry announces the extension, for the first half of 2021, of part of the aid intended for professional clubs. Since the start of the crisis, the government has provided 3 billion euros in aid, “through partial activity, recourse to PGEs (loans guaranteed by the State, editor’s note) or to the solidarity fund in particular” , indicates the press release.
Among this envelope of 3 billion euros, 107 million are currently distributed to professional clubs in order to compensate for the loss of ticketing revenues. It is to continue in this direction, “because of the maintenance of closed doors” at the beginning of the year, as indicated in the press release, that Jean-Michel Blanquer and Roxana Maracineanu have decided to extend this aid to professional sport.
A Pass’Port rolled out next September
“The criterion used to define the amount of additional aid will mainly be the rate of dependence on the ticket office”, it is written in the press release. While Paris Saint-Germain has for example counted on losses of up to 204 million euros at the end of the current season, this aid will provide light help to professional clubs. But that the latter will very probably welcome, in the current situation, with satisfaction.
In addition, the Ministry of National Education, Youth and Sports specified in its press release that “with regard to sports associations, the methods of deploying a Pass’Sport endowed with 100 million euros are in progress. finalization course for entry into force at the start of the 2021 sports school year. “
