Racing Genk, if it manages to defeat the formidable Ukrainian team from Shakhtar Donetsk, will challenge the winner of a duel between the French from AS Monaco and the Czechs from Sparta Prague in the Champions League play-off. It was the result of a draw for the main European football competition, which took place on Monday afternoon at UEFA Headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.
Last season’s runners-up at Club Brugge on the home scene, KRC Genk will begin their continental run in the Champions League on Tuesday with the welcome of the Ukrainian from Shakhtar Donetsk (8 pm) for the third preliminary round. They will play the second leg on 10 August on the lawn of the Olympic Stadium in Kiev (7:30 pm). Elimination will send them straight to the Europa League group stage.
