Boxing World Cup: Simranjit Cologne reaches finals

World Championship bronze medalist Simranjit Kaur (60 kg) defeated Ukraine’s Mariana Basenets on Friday to advance to the final of the Boxing World Cup in Cologne, Germany. Asian Championship silver medalist Simranjeet entered the title match with a 4–1 victory which will be played on Saturday.

Earlier, two-time World Championship winner Sonia Lather defeated Ukraine’s Snizhana Kholodkova 3-2 to advance to the semi-finals where she will face compatriot Manisha. Manisha got a bye in the quarter-finals. Asian Games bronze medalist Satish Kumar (+91 kg) began his campaign with a 5–0 win against Jewantin Alexel of Maldova.

Satish secured another medal for India by making it to the semi-finals. Mohammad Hussamuddin (57 kg) also reached the semi-finals by defeating Omar Bajwa of Germany 5–0. In other matches of the same category, Commonwealth Games champion Gaurav Solanki beat local contender Murat Yildirim 3-2 while Kavinder Singh Bisht defeated Samuel Kistohari of France.

Asian Championship silver medalist Ashish Kumar (75 kg) suffered a 1-3 defeat in the quarter-finals against Max van der Pass of the Netherlands. Asian Games champion and World Championship silver medalist Amit Panghal (52kg) also made it to the final on Thursday.
