Premier League: Mane and Ronaldo absent from nominees for Best Player trophy

The Premier League season is about to end and it’s time for the awards. The English Championship has unveiled eight lucky winners to claim the title of player of the season. If the inevitable Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne are present, the absence of Sadio Mane and Cristiano Ronaldo poses a handful of challenges.

This is a panel that people should talk to across the channel. This Friday the Premier League revealed the eight players nominated for the title of player of the season. Among them, we find some regulars like Kevin De Bruyne, winner in 2020 or Mohamed Salah, title in 2018. Some of the season’s revelations have also placed leaders such as Jarrod Bowen (10 goals and 12 assists with West Ham). ) or Bukayo Saka (11 goals and 6 assists with Arsenal). Son Heung-min (Totem), James Ward-Prause (Southampton), Joao Canslow (Manchester City) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool) complete the selection.

With only eight nominees, some names have gone out of the way. But Sadio Mane’s absence from this selection puts people in England at risk for talking. Named as Karim Benzema’s main competitor in the race for the Ballon d’Or, Mane has scored 15 goals and 2 assists in the Premier League this season.

Another famous absentee, Cristiano Ronaldo, who made his return to the championship last summer, revealed him. With little help from Manchester United’s disastrous season, CR7 still roped in 18 times and made 3 assists. The Portuguese, elected twice this season as player of the month, decided the fate of some matches on their own, notably those against Tottenham and Norwich.

The name of the successor to Robben Dias, who was awarded in 2021, will be known at the end of the season. The winner is determined by a combination of a public vote (10% of the final result) with a panel of captains and experts, notably composed of Jamie Carragher, Kenny Dalglish and Gary Neville.
