Morocco: Halilhodik meets Mazrouei, with a possible return in sight

At odds with some of the Moroccan selection officials, Wahid Halilhodik visited Nausser Mazrouei in Amsterdam to convince himself and consider a possible return for selection.

A reconciliation between Halilhodžić and Mazraoui could be a good start. After more than a year of freezing due to a bottle of water, the two men met in Amsterdam to discuss the possible return of the new Bayern Munich player for selection. According to information from 360sports, the picture of the two men all smiling in support, the defender could be part of the Atlas Lions’ list for the next World Cup in Qatar.

The last time Nausser Mazrouei wore the Moroccan selection jersey was on October 13, 2020, during a friendly against the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Since then, the Ajax Amsterdam player has not been called by Vahid Halilhodik.

Scheduled meeting with Ziyech and Harito

Under his era, the 24-year-old has played a total of two qualifying matches for the 2021 African Cup of Nations and has refused to participate in the 2022 World Cup play-off rounds against the DRC. Yet according to Moroccan media, Wahid Hlillhodik should exchange with Hakim Ziyach as well as Amin Harit.

Last March, the Moroccan coach explained that he no longer wanted to talk about players refusing to wear Atlas Lions jerseys. “Ziach and Mazrouei were on the list. They chose to refuse. We respect that choice. But now it’s over. I’ll never talk about them again. I focus on my group and The players are called.” Looks like he’s changed his mind.
